MODEL SCHOOL - STATE-OF-THE-ARTBeckman High School, opened in 2004, is a state-of-the-art facility built to meet the growing needs of Tustin Unified School District. Beckman is the first new secondary school built in the district since Foothill High School opened 40 years earlier. A core value is the expectation that all students master rigorous academic content in a challenging college preparatory environment. To accomplish its academic mission, Beckman has retained top teaching professionals and instituted an academic program rivaling any at the state or national level. Supporting the academic mission is a physical plant that is the envy of thousands of high schools. The facility includes technically advanced classroom’s with the latest audio visual equipment, science labs, computer labs, a beautiful commons area, cafeteria and library, …a wonderful new educational venue. Beckman also offers complete co-curricular programs to develop students athletically, culturally and socially as well as academically. The original Support facilities included two gymnasiums and a 550 seat theater and visual performing arts complex including a television studio and animation lab. While the Beckman High School master plan included a layout for outdoor athletic facilities for football, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, track, baseball and other outdoor sports, they were not fully developed. Since the school opened Tustin Unified School District has upgraded the Beckman campus with an all weather track in 2006. this all weather track was installed with all the drainage necessary to install state of the art field turf inside the track anticipating this as the next step. It should be noted that most high schools function not only as academic centers, but in fact become “community” centers of activities for the student and families as well as those residents proximate to the school. Currently this is less feasible at Beckman due to the condition of its existing fields. Events such as football games, soccer games, and lacrosse games, must be scheduled off the campus until we improve the condition of the fields. And with the right facilities graduation ceremonies for Beckman High School’s seniors can graduate at their own school instead of the Tustin High School stadium. The Patriot Fields Foundation was established to work co-operatively with the Tustin Unified School District, the City of Tustin, the City of Irvine, and other educational and civic organizations proximate to Beckman High School to fully develop the Beckman High School site for maximum benefit to students, the surrounding community and its constituents. |
